Abstract
Ultrastructure of the marine lignicolous, bitunicate, ascomycete Massa rina thalassiae is presented and compared with marine species of the g enera Paraliomyces, Pleospora and Nimbospora. Asci of M. thalassiae po ssess a thick endoascus, thin ectoascus and an ocular chamber. The bic elled ascospores are surrounded by an exosporial mucilaginous sheath s imilar to that of Paraliomyces lentiferus.
