Abstract
The influence of the conjugates of monosaccharides (Man, Glc, Gal, Fuc , and GlcNAc) with polyacrylamide (PAA) on the luminol-dependent chemi luminescence (CL) of rat peritoneal macrophages was studied. It was fo und that incubation of cells with PAA-Man or PAA-Fuc decreased the CL activated by either opsonised or unopsonised zymosan, but not by PMA. CL activation by latex was inhibited not only by PAA-Man and PAA-Fuc, but also PAA-Glc. The conjugates had no effect on the level of superox ide and hydroxyl radicals generated in model systems.Incubation of zym osan with PAA-Man and PAA-Fuc, but not with PAA-Glc, increased the CL responce of macrophages. Ca2+-dependent adsorption of PAA-Man or PAA-F uc on zymosan particles was demonstrated. Therefore, D-Man/L-Fuc recep tor is supposed to participate directly in the activation of the lumin ol-dependent CL of rat peritoneal macrophages.
