Vi. Razinkov et al., RHODAMINE LIPID DERIVATIVES INCREASE THE LIGHT-HARVESTING ABILITY OF ISOLATED-CHLOROPLASTS, Biologiceskie membrany, 11(6), 1994, pp. 660-663
Lipophilic rhodamine derivatives (9E-octadecenyl esters of rhodamine 1
01, rhodamine B, and rhodamine 6G) incorporated into isolated thylakoi
d membranes of chloroplasts transfer absorbed light energy to photosys
tems 1 and 2 by the resonance transfer energy mechanism. As the rhodam
ine derivatives absorb in green-yellow spectral region, their insertio
n in chloroplasts substantially improves the light-harvesting ability.
