E. Lazzaro et al., EFFECTS OF NONVANISHING ION VISCOSITY ON THE LINEAR-STABILITY OF DRIFT TEARING MODES IN A TOKAMAK, Journal of the Physical Society of Japan, 63(12), 1994, pp. 4373-4378
The inviscid drift tearing modes dispersion relation is a singular lim
it of the viscous theory. We show that a finite viscosity leads to dis
sipative coupling of branches of the drift tearing mode dispersion rel
ation. As a consequence, linear magnetic field reconnection perturbati
ons appear. unstable also at large drift frequency. The effects presen
t analogies with the theory of the Orr-Sommerfeld equation for viscous
fluids. Applicability to edge localized resistive modes in a tokamak
is suggested.
