M. Bernagozzi et al., AN EVALUATION OF CERTAIN SALMONELLA DETECTION METHODS IN SURFACE-WATER, Zentralblatt fur Hygiene und Umweltmedizin, 199(1), 1996, pp. 84-90
Two different procedures were employed for detecting Salmonella spp. i
n environmental water samples: a rapid method (enrichment in Salmosyst
Broth and plating in Rambach Agar - Merck) and a longer assay (pre-en
richment in Buffered Peptone Water, enrichment in Selenite-Cistyne Bro
th and plating in Brilliant Green Agar -Difco). The efficiency of micr
obiological rests was measured by the following criteria: recover, sen
sitivity and specificity. The results analysed by the Kendall concorda
nce coefficients demonstrated that the rapid method appeared more effe
ctive even if poorly specific.
