Abstract
The reaction of 1,1,3-triphenyl-1,3-propanediol with thionyl chloride gave an unexpected product, namely, the title compound 3,3,5-triphenyl -1,2-oxathiolane 2,2-dioxide (2), C21H18O3S, which was identified by X -ray analysis.
