The title compound, C14H20O2, can be regarded as a synthetic derivativ
e resembling tobacco isoprenoids and is structurally related to primar
y precursor alpha-and beta-ionones. The double bond distance C(3)= C(4
) in the furanone ring is 1.329 (8) Angstrom and the double bond dista
nce C(1')=C(2') in the cyclohexene ring is 1.331 (6) Angstrom. The bon
d between the rings, C(5)-C(2'), is 1.513(7) Angstrom and the bond tor
sion angle O(1)-C(5)-C(2')-C(1'), which describes the relative twist o
f the rings, is +/-51.3 (7)degrees.
