Km. Barkigia et Ds. Gottfried, A NEW CRYSTAL FORM OF METHYL BACTERIOPHEOPHORBIDE-ALPHA, Acta crystallographica. Section C, Crystal structure communications, 50, 1994, pp. 2069-2072
The structure of a new crystal form of methyl bacteriopheophorbide a,
C36H40N4O6, which does not contain benzene molecules of crystallizatio
n, has been determined at 200 K. The molecule is slightly ruffled with
maximum displacements from planarity of +/- 0.21 Angstrom in all five
rings. The crystal packing is dominated by pi-pi interactions between
pyrrole rings I and III of adjacent molecules, which are separated by
3.58 Angstrom.
