Abstract
PhCF(2)Cl suffered readily one-electron reduction with SmI2 to give Ph CF(2) radical and chloride ion. The resulting PhCF(2) radical was furt her reduced with SmI2 to PhCF(2)SmI(2) which reacted with electrophile such as Me(3)SiCl. The initially formed PhCF(2) radical could be trap ped by olefin or acetylene before it was reduced to PhCF(2)SmI(2).
