La. Talbot et al., GEOTECHNICAL AND ACOUSTIC CHARACTERISTICS OF PLIOPLEISTOCENE SEDIMENTS FROM THE HEBRIDES SLOPE, Geo-marine letters, 14(4), 1994, pp. 244-251
Geotechnical data from Plio-Pleistocene sediments on the Hebrides Slop
e provide the basis for an analysis of potential factors controlling t
heir acoustic character as observed on high-resolution seismic reflect
ion profiles. Differences in acoustic signature within the sedimentary
succession are related to the void index and thus to soil structure a
nd, in turn, to the depositional history of the sediments. In this exa
mple, a correlation can be demonstrated between the seismic and geotec
hnical stratigraphies.
