Abstract
Dicarboxylates are generally considered the main energy-bearing compou nds imported from plant cells into bacteroids in root nodules, Evidenc e reviewed herein supports the hypothesis that other compounds contrib ute and that proline catabolism may have particular importance in bact eroid metabolism during environmental stress.
