The Raman spectra of Bi4Ge3O12 and Bi4Si3O12 monocrystals grown by the
Czochralski method and of Bi-4(GeXSi1-X)(3)O-12 mixed crystals, obtai
ned by devetrification of the 2Bi(2)O(3).3[(GeO2)(X)(SiO2)(1-X)] glass
es, are reported: The vibrational structure at low frequencies is foun
d to be nearly independent from the composition whereas at higher freq
uencies the vibrations may be attributed mainly to Ge-O and Si-O bonds
in GeO4 and SiO4 tetrahedral units.
