Ce. Bacchi et al., DETECTION OF INFECTIOUS-DISEASE AGENTS IN TISSUE BY IMMUNOCYTOCHEMISTRY, Brazilian journal of medical and biological research, 27(12), 1994, pp. 2803-2820
1. Immunocytochemical procedures have played an increasingly larger ro
le in the identification of infectious disease agents in tissue sectio
ns owing to the increased availability and specificity of antibody rea
gents, the great sensitivity of the methods, and the relative facility
with which the studies are performed. 2. Immunocytochemical methods c
an be applied to routine formalin-fixed tissue for the detection of in
fectious agents such as viruses, bacteria, fungi, and protozoa among o
ther microorganisms for diagnostic and research purposes.
