A local impedance boundary condition for one-dimensional curved surfac
es, applicable to a scattering formalism that permits the study of ree
ntrant surfaces, is derived, The results are applied to the calculatio
n of near- and far-field scattering patterns produced by a surface wit
h a cylindrical cavity. The accuracy of the impedance boundary conditi
on is evaluated with this example, which also illustrates the utility
of the approximation.
