R. Bohm et al., MEASUREMENTS OF OPERATION PARAMETERS AND NONLINEARITY OF A ND3-DOPED FIBER LASER BY RELAXATION OSCILLATIONS(), Optics communications, 134(1-6), 1997, pp. 537-546
The optical nonlinearity, saturation of the lower laser level, and spo
ntaneous emission modify the relaxation oscillations in a Nd3+-doped f
ibre laser. A novel four-level rate-equation model correctly describes
the modified laser dynamics and allows the determination of the secon
d-order susceptibility of the fibre, lifetimes of upper and lower lase
r levels, cavity loss, and the number of oscillating modes by monitori
ng relaxation oscillations. Measurements on five different Nd3+-doped
fibres are reported.
