Abstract
We demonstrate a detailed structural equivalence between 7 of the 12 k nown condensed water-surface monolayer phases of long-chain fatty acid s and 7 of the 11 known bulk solid phases observed in long-chain alkra nes. Two second-order phase transitions are common to both. Thermodyna mic parameters are established in both systems for one of these and th ey are consistent with the proposed equivalence.
