M. Guest et al., AMLODIPINE IN STABLE EXERTIONAL ANGINA - RESULTS OF A MULTICENTER TRIAL, La Semaine des hopitaux de Paris, 70(39-40), 1994, pp. 1424-1430
Amlodipine, a recently developed calcium channel antagonist of the dih
ydropyridine family, is indicated both for the prevention of stable an
gina and for the treatment of arterial hypertension, in the same dosag
e. The efficacy of amlodipine in angina was investigated in a multicen
ter trial conducted in 22 cardiology departments in France. Tolerance
to exercise was improved 60 days after initiation of the drug. Analysi
s of stress electrocardiogram parameters at the end of the study demon
strated significant improvements versus baseline in the ischemia thres
hold (+ 21.8%), time to ischemia (+ 31%), and maximum exercise capacit
y (+ 9.7%). Overall, safety data were highly satisfactory.
