Abstract
The theoretical and experimental studies of aerodynamic stepped thrust bearing for small cryogenic expansion turbines are described in this paper. The static characteristic curves were obtained by an 2-D finite element method(FEM). A small cryogenic expansion turbine has been des igned and tested. The maximum rotational speed 250,000 rpm of the turb ine with aerodynamic stepped thrust bearing was obtained.
