Solids of the stoichiometric formulae [Fe{S2P(OPr-n)(2)}(3)] and [Fe{S
(2)PO(2)G}(3)] (G = -CH(2)CMe(2)CH(2)-, CMe(2)-CMe(2)- or -CH(2)CH(2)C
HMe-) are precipitated from the reactions of FeCl3 with ammonium dithi
ophosphates in water. Soluble complexes of the type [Fe{S(2)PO(2)G}(2)
], formed by the reactions of FeCl2 with NH4[{S(2)PO(2)G}] in MeOH, ca
n be extracted with benzene. Adducts of the types [Fe{S(2)PO(2)G}(2)L]
and [Fe{S(2)PO(2)G}(2)(PPh(3))(2)] are formed by the reaction of [Fe{
S(2)PO(2)G}(2)] with L (L = 2,2'-bipyridyl or 1,10-phenanthroline) and
PPh(3), respectively. All the compounds have been characterized by i.
r. and u.v.-vis. spectroscopy and magnetic studies.
