The melting procedure of the metallized wustite pellet under Ar atmosp
here was examined in this work. The temperature at the center and surf
ace of the pellet was measured during pellet heating from 200 to 1550-
degrees-C. The variation of the pellet shape and the movement of melti
ng interface were continuously monitored by means of an X-ray image sy
stem during pellet melting. The adoption of digital image processing m
ade a significant accuracy improvement of the X-ray image analysis com
pared with the previous works. On the basis of experimental results, a
modified unit cell model was built for describing the internal struct
ure and the effective thermal conductivity of the metallized porous pe
llet. The calculated results based on the model agreed well with the e
xperimental ones.
