Nc. Visser et Jj. Spies, CYTOGENETIC STUDIES IN THE GENUS TRIBOLIUM (POACEAE, DANTHONIEAE) .4.SECTION UNIOLAE, South African journal of botany, 60(5), 1994, pp. 279-284
The section Uniolae of the genus Tribolium Desv. comprises four specie
s, namely T. alternans (Nees) Renv., T. amplexum (Nees) Renv., T. brac
hystachyum (Nees) Renv. and T. uniolae (L. f.) Renv. Tribolium alterna
ns, T. amplexum and T. uniolae are morphologically similar and form a
hybrid swarm. Thus, only two species should be recognized, namely T. b
rachystachyum and a T. uniolae hybrid swarm. Diploid, tetraploid and h
exaploid specimens have been observed in the T. uniolae hybrid swarm,
whereas all the T. brachystachyum specimens were tetraploid. Segmental
alloploidy, tending towards alloploidy, is present in both species.
