Seven wood burning facilities were analyzed for their emissions of PCD
D/F and other parameters while th input was varied. PCDD/F emission co
ncentrations ranged from 0.004 to 9.820 ng l-TEQ/Nm(3), with the major
ity of values > 0.1 ng l-TEQ/Nm(3), even in the input was untreated wo
od. Highest concentrations occurred after addition of halogenated mate
rials (NH4Cl hardened or PVC coated plywood) to the input. Using typic
al input materials, facilities with smaller thermal capacity (< 1 MW)
showed emission freights ranging from 0.03 to 0.4 mu g l-TEQ/h, while
the large ones (> 1 MW) emitted 0.07 to 0.5 mu g l-TEQ/h. Using treate
d input materials, emission freights of smaller facilities reached 1.6
mu g l-TEQ/h, while the large plants released up to 7.2 mu g l-TEQ/h.
