Abstract
In 1991 and 1992 an extensive investigation on the input, formation an d fate of polychlorinated dibenzodioxins and dibenzofurans in the Germ an pulp and paper industry was carried out. The PCDD/F levels in paper s and paperboards have decreased within the last years. The measured v alues depending on the matrix ranged from 0.17 to 11.53 ng I-TE/kg (pp t). The PCDD/F mass balances of 13 pulp and paper mills showed no form ation of PCCD/Fs in any part of the paper or paperboard manufacturing process.
