Abstract
The paper presents an empirical assessment of the fertility impact of the early adoption of family planning based on a study conducted in a heterogeneous sample. Detailed analysis of the findings indicate that (i) child loss and (ii) the timing of adoption of family planning prac tices, have an important bearing on fertility.
