Abstract
New results on meson spectroscopy at KEK are presented. Experimental d ata on the reaction pi(-)p --> eta pi(-)p at 6.3 GeV/c have been colle cted by the Benkei spectrometer at the 12 GeV proton synchrotron to th e aim of searching for IJ(PC) = 11(-)+ states in the eta pi(-) system. A marked forward-backward asymmetry of the events is observed in the Gotffried-Jackson frame of the eta pi(-) system. The result of the par tial-wave analysis shows a clear bump of the P-+ wave around 1320 MeV/ c(2). Checks for the result and the analysis are discussed.
