Abstract
The beam profile of the acoustic wave produced by a disk transducer in lossy nonhomogeneous medium is calculated by the beam propagation met hod (BPM), which ran be applied, in contrast to the conventional metho d, to a medium with arbitrary refractive index and attenuation coeffic ient distributions. The computed results agree quite well with the exp erimental data in the situations where the ray acoustics fails.
