Abstract
Consolidation of encapsulated gas atomised powders to near net shape p arts by encapsulation and hipping is increasingly being recognised as a cost competitive manufacturing route for critical components in offs hore and power generation applications. A fully dense PM microstructur e combines with the design flexibility offered by hipping and short le ad times to offer significant benefits. Powdermet, with its expertise and innovative philosophy, has been a leader in gaining industrial acc eptance for this technology. The company is also a major supplier of h ipped high speed steel billet from in house gas atomised powders.
