A. Sianipar et al., CHEMICAL INCOMPATIBILITY BETWEEN PROCAINAMIDE HYDROCHLORIDE AND GLUCOSE FOLLOWING INTRAVENOUS ADMIXTURE, Journal of Pharmacy and Pharmacology, 46(12), 1994, pp. 951-955
The chemical reaction between procainamide hydrochloride and glucose f
ollowing admixture to glucose infusion has been investigated. Substant
ial amounts (10-15% after 10 h at room temperature) of the procainamid
e is lost with the formation of a mixture of the corresponding alpha-
and beta-glucosylamines. The chemical identity of the latter compounds
was confirmed by C-13 and H-1 nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy
.
