This commentary evaluated the methodology and conclusions reached in t
he 12 articles of the special issue on Sexual Orientation and Human De
velopment as these pertained to 3 questions: Have homosexual persons c
hosen their sexual orientation, or are they born that way? What psycho
logical risks are unique to the mental health and well-being of lesbia
n and gay youths? and What are the effects, harmful and beneficial, of
being raised by homosexual parents? Social policy implications of alt
ernative answers to these questions were discussed.
