M. Poloujadoff et al., UNIVARIANT SEARCH - AN OPPORTUNITY TO IDENTIFY AND SOLVE CONFLICT PROBLEMS IN OPTIMIZATION, IEEE transactions on energy conversion, 9(4), 1994, pp. 659-664
It is generally thought that multivariant search methods are the most
efficient to solve optimization problems. It is shown, through an exam
ple, that the use of univariant search techniques may lead to the iden
tification of conflict problems, and help to solve them. The example i
s thoroughly analyzed, and it is clear that our conclusion is rather g
eneral.
