Abstract
The 3,4-O-isopropylidene derivative of (3S,4S)-3,4-dihydroxy-2,5-hexan edione is synthesized from dimethyl 2,3-O-isopropylidene-D-tartrate by the reaction with 1,1-dilithiomethyl phenylsulfone and subsequent des ulfonylation with Al(Hg).
