SYNTHESIS AND STRUCTURAL-ANALYSIS OF TRANS-CP(CO)(2)(PPH(3))WHGCL

The title compound was prepared by reaction of [Cp(CO)(3)W]Hg-2 with P Ph(3) in the presence of chlorinated solvents. The compound was charac terized by IR, H-1 and P-31 NMR, high resolution mass spectrometry, an d X-ray crystallography. The subject compound crystallizes in the mono clinic space group P2(1)/n (No. 14; C-2h(5)) with Z=4 and a=9.807(2), b=17.854(2), c=14.449(1) Angstrom and beta=96.28(1)degrees. The final least-squares full-matrix refinement based on 2141 unique reflections yielded a reliability factor of 0.037. Bond lengths and angles are int ernally consistent and the van der Waals interactions are normal. Impo rtant geometric details are tabulated.
