Dm. Halepoto et al., THE PREPARATION, PROPERTIES AND CRYSTAL-STRUCTURE OF A SALT CONTAINING THE HEXABROMOCHROMATE(III) ANION, Inorganica Chimica Acta, 227(1), 1994, pp. 167-170
The hexabromochromate(III) anion, otherwise known only in Cs2LiCrBr6,
has been stabilised in the salt [4-BrC6H4NH3](6)[CrBr6]Br-3.2CH(3)CO(2
)H which forms dark green crystals, space group P2(1)/a, a = 10.665(4)
, b = 24.650(7), c = 11.464(3) Angstrom, beta = 91.81(3)degrees. The [
CrBr6](3-) anion is sited on a centre of symmetry and shows little dep
arture from octahedral symmetry. The Cr-Br bond distnces range from 2.
513(1) to 2.521(1) Angstrom, and the Br-Cr-Br angles are 180 degrees o
r close to 90 degrees. The magnetic behaviour and d-d spectrum are typ
ical of an octahedral chromium(III) complex.
