A novel series of thiopyridyl triazine ligands and their metal(II) com
plexes have been synthesized. The X-ray structure of the mononuclear c
opper(II) complex of the ligand -thiopyridyl-2,4-bis(dimethylamino)-1,
3,5-triazine (L5) has also been determined. The in vitro cytotoxic pot
ency against the human colon cancer cell line (HT-29) has been determi
ned for the ligands and their platinum complexes. All compounds includ
ing their ligands have been found to be highly potent against the HT-2
9 cell line. The ligand 2,4,6-trithiopyridyl-1,3,5-triazine (L2) and i
ts platinum complex were found to be 10-30 times more potent than cisp
latin.
