Abstract
The nucleophilic substitution reactions of five- and six-membered hype rvalent phosphorus containing spirobicyclic phosphoranes with metal ca rbonylates of high nucleophilic character result in the isolation of t he corresponding metallated phosphoranes. The presence of five- and si x-membered rings in their structures inhibits the ionising of these co mpounds into their phosphonium cations in solutions. These have been c haracterised by elemental analysis, molar conductance and spectroscopi c (mass and H-1 NMR) and TG studies.
