High-spin states in the odd-odd nucleus Eu-148, populated by a carbon-
13 induced reaction on a lanthanum target, were investigated with seve
ral different tools of in-beam nuclear spectroscopy. The low-energy le
vels show collective excitations, interpreted as 3- octupole-phonon co
uplings to multi-particle-hole states. A probable two-octupole-phonon
state is identified. Otherwise most Eu-148 high-spin levels are interp
reted in terms of fully aligned multi-particle-hole states rather well
described both by a semi-empirical shell model and a deformed indepen
dent-particle model.
