Abstract
The scope of the paper is to analyze the design of production informat ion systems and to outline an approach methodology for it. The problem is decomposed into a sequence of subproblems comprised of the issue o f selection of the design specifications, of the organizational struct ure design and of the operations management design. For each of them a ppropriate tools are pointed out and discussed.
