Abstract
Phase composition and microstructure of corrosion products of aluminum and MA2-1 magnesium-aluminum alloy were studied after 1, 2, and 3 yea r atmospheric corrosion testing under the wet climate conditions of Vi etnam in urban (Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh) and coastal (Nha Trang) regions . The composition of aluminum corrosion products is almost constant in time but depends on atmosphere type: it is beta-Al2O3 . H2O + delta-A l2O3 ill urban regions and delta-Al2O3 + gamma-Al2O3 in coastal region s. MgCO3 5H(2)O has been found on the surface of MA2-1 alloy in any at mosphere. The protecting properties of this compound are better in mar ine than in urban atmosphere, and signs of crystalline Mg(OH)Cl were f ound in the former case.
