The electrochemical behaviour of the Schiff bases derived from pyridox
al-5'-P (PLP) and pyridoxal (PL) with L-isoleucine (Ile) has been stud
ied in buffered aqueous solution. The formation of the Schiff base, it
s dependence on the pH and the electroreduction scheme at different pH
values have been compared to those of the Schiff bases derived from L
-alanine (Ala) and L-leucine (Leu). The observed differences seem to b
e produced by a hydrophobic effect of the amino acid moiety. This find
ing can be helpful for understanding the coenzyme environment on the p
rotein binding site.
