Hypertrophic osteoarthropathy (HOA) is a syndrome affecting the bones,
soft tissue, and joints, often occurring in association with chronic
pulmonary disorders. Radiography has traditionally been the imaging mo
dality employed to confirm this diagnosis. However, radionuclide bone
imaging provides a sensitive method for the detection of HOA and corre
lates well with the clinical manifestations. The authors's describe th
e case of a child with HOA in association with follicular bronchioliti
s, a rare chronic pulmonary disorder, whose HOA was diagnosed by radio
nuclide imaging.
