Abstract
A novel synthesis of (+)-paeonilactone B, a minor constituent of Paeon iae Radix, and the first synthesis of (-)-paeonisuffrone, a new monote rpene recently isolated from Moutan Colter, have been accomplished fro m the tricyclic compound which functioned well as a key synthetic inte rmediate in our previous synthesis of (-)-paeoniflorin.
