Ev. Balanovskaya et al., COMPUTER-TECHNOLOGY OF GENOGEOGRAPHIC ANA LYSIS OF A GENE POOL .2. STATISTICAL TRANSFORMATION OF MAPS, Genetika, 30(11), 1994, pp. 1538-1555
Transformations of computer maps of geographical distribution of gene
frequencies using basic mathematical statistical procedures are consid
ered. These transformations are designated as statistical transformati
on of maps. Two transformation groups are considered: of one map separ
ately and of a group of maps. Transformations possess a value beyond t
heir use as intermediate stages of more complicated cartographical ana
lysis: the resulting maps carry entirely new information on the geogra
phy of genes or a gene pool. This article considers three examples of
obtaining new genetic profiles using statistical transformation algori
thms. These profiles ar of: heterozygosity (of HLA-A,B,C loci in north
eastern Eurasia); (2) disease risk (Rh-incompatibility of mother and c
hild with simultaneous registration of Rh and ABO blood groups in East
ern Europe); (3) genetic distances (from own mean ethnic values for Be
larus' and from mean Russian values for the gene pool of Eastern Europ
e).
