Abstract
Temperature phase transitions in the quasiternary lyotropic system CpC l/brine/hexanol are presented and the nucleation of smectic A (L(alpha ), or lamellar) in sponge (L3) phase is investigated; some of the grow th steps of the nuclei are described, and their study with polarizing microscope shows an original smectic-sponge anchoring phenomenon, whic h is not of the planar type usually met with in thermotropic systems. We interpret this with the specific properties of the sponge phase.
