Abstract
The reaction of alkyl sulfones with n-butyllithium, catalysted by Fe(a cac)3, gives according to the experimental conditions, either the symm etrical dimeric alkene or another alkene formed by elimination of the sulfonyl group. Three factors orienting the reaction have been identif ied. The same alkenes have been obtained in stoichiometric reactions u sing lithium sulfonylalkyl ferrates. Reaction mechanisms can be propos ed.
