C. Corbau et al., EVALUATION OF THE SEDIMENT TRANSPORT ON A MACROTIDAL BEACH USING FLUORESCENT TRACERS, DUNKERQUE EST, FRANCE, Comptes rendus de l'Academie des sciences. Serie II. Mecanique, physique, chimie, astronomie, 319(12), 1994, pp. 1503-1509
In order to estimate the sediment transport along a macrotidal beach o
f the Dunkerque area (northern France) a fluorescent tracer experiment
was performed from 19 to 27 April 1993. Hydrodynamic conditions can b
e characterized as low spring tides with weak to moderate winds. The r
esults indicate that the flood current is the dominant factor during l
ow-energy periods-mainly with a longshore component of transport-where
as during moderate landward winds the swells induce a shore-normal tra
nsport leading to nourishment of the beach.
