C. Hartmann et al., ROLE OF PEDOCLIMATIC CONDITIONS UPON THE PRESENCE OF SAVANNA IN AFRICAN RAIN-FOREST AT DABOU (IVORY-COAST), Comptes rendus de l'Academie des sciences. Serie II. Mecanique, physique, chimie, astronomie, 319(12), 1994, pp. 1525-1533
The region of Dabou has been characterized for a long time by the pres
ence of a savanna which is a vegetation type not frequently observed i
n this subequatorial rainforest area. The studies conducted recently s
how that this region is distinguished not only by its vegetation, but
also by a structure of the soil mantle related to a landscape (surface
relief, river system) which are characteristic of drier areas. Climat
e is the main factor which offers an explanation for the presence of t
he savanna up to recent times.
