Abstract
The template reaction of 2,6-diacetylpyridine with 3,3'-diaminodipropy lamine in the presence of scandium(III) chloride and perchlorate produ ces the 14-membered N4 macrocyclic complexes as a result of [1 + 1] Sc hiff base cyclocondensation. Under the same reaction conditions yttriu m(III) nitrate template agent generates the 28-membered N8 [2+2] cyclo condensation product. The complexes have been characterized by IR, UV- vis and H-1 NMR data, in addition to elemental and thermogravimetric a nalyses.
