New rhodium(I) carbonyl and ruthenium(II) complexes with phosphines so
luble in water: ,3,5-triaza-7-phosphatricyclo[3.3.1.1(3,7)]decane, tri
s(hydroxy-methyl)phosphine and tris(2-cyanoethyl)phosphine, have been
prepared. The RhCl(CO)(PR3)2 compounds possess trans square-planar str
ucture and ruthenium(II) complexes are five and six-coordinate. The IR
spectra show that in RuCl2(CO)2-{P(CH2CH2CN)3}2 complex, carbonyl lig
ands are in trans coordination sites. In the case of [RhCl(CO)(PR3)2]
complexes, the dependence of DELTAdelta (P-31) is inversely proportion
al to the DELTAnu = nu(co)-nu(co)(complex). Complexes are catalysts fo
r water gas shift reaction and reduction of CO2 leading to the formati
on of CO and CH4.
