Abstract
The rearrangement of several N-substituted ethyl-1,3-dioxo-1,2-dihydro -pyrrolo[3,4-c]pyrroles 2 into corresponding pyrrolo[3,4-c]pyridines 4 has been reported. A mechanism of rearrangement involves ethanolysis of the carboxyimide linkage of 2 followed by pyridine ring closure wit h formation of the dimethyl-4-oxo-4,5-dihydropyrrolo-[3,4-c]pyridines 4.
