Abstract
Based on Ellis' (1962, 1995) RET theory, the present study examined th e validity of a diathesis (irrational beliefs) x stress (negative life experience) model for predicting depressive symptoms. Results of anal ysis of variance indicated significant main effects for irrational bel iefs and negative life stress. However, no significant diathesis x str ess interaction was found. Implications for rational emotive therapy a re discussed. Copyright (C) 1997 Elsevier Science Ltd.
